January 27 & 28 Leadership Workshop & Retreat:
Our upcoming Leadership Workshop and Retreat is designed in part for ALL ODS LEADERS including ODS Board of Directors, Chapter Officers and Committee Members to attend as an annual input towards the inner workings of ODS.
Our goal is to have 100% of the ODS Board of Directors and 100% of Chapters represented by two Chapter Officers!
It is acceptable for your chapter to pay the way for your representatives as long as the expense is either budgeted (i.e. Officer Training) and/or voted on following your chapter’s procedures.
Space is currently limited to 24 attendees at this point, but we have the capability to expand if we get our numbers in soon. Note that the cost covers the meals AND room cost! There are three meals provided (Sat Lunch, Dinner, Sun Breakfast, – optional fee for Sunday Lunch) plus an afternoon coffee break on Saturday and extra morning coffee on Sunday – please let the ODS Office know of any special dietary restrictions. Annual Written Chapter Reports for the ODS Board at the ODS Officer and Board Retreat:
Your chapter is responsible for submitting a written report giving a synopsis of what your chapter is doing to uphold the ODS Mission; i.e. what happened over the past year and what are your officers and members planning in the upcoming year. Your report should list officers (hopefully will match what we have on file and appearing on your chapter’s webpage on the ODS website). Please contact the ODS Office if you need help with this. Please turn in your chapter’s report by 1/22.
Membership Drive:
The ODS Office is requesting the chapter’s assistance in contacting any non-renewed chapter members in regards to their 2018 ODS membership.
Please have your chapter’s membership chair reach out to the ODS Office for the list of non-renewed members. With the new database, this list is longer than normal, however, it will also give you an opportunity to reach out to general members in your area. If your chapter does not have a designated membership chair, please contact the Office at (503) 681-2337 so that we know where to send your current membership list and a list of non-renewed members.
Chapter Insurance for Events:
EVERY time your chapter HOSTS an event which involves horses, the event dates MUST be declared to the ODS Office who then transmits information to our insurance agent. We transmit forms on the 2nd Tuesday of the month and expect forms to be at least 6 weeks in advance (not our rule – the insurance company’s rule) – the next deadline for submission is Tuesday, February 13.

Flying Changes Reports:
ODS has a contract with Flying Changes to not only supply every primary member on record with a copy of the magazine monthly, but also to provide ODS with 2 pages of editorial copy. This means that each month, there is plenty of space for chapter reports. The ODS Office strongly encourages your chapters to take advantage of this free publicity by sending your chapter report monthly to the ODS Office on or before the 7th. If you need help getting started and would like an example of chapter reports printed in the past, contact the office.
As always, if your chapter needs any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.
The ODS Office will be completely closed from 1/10 – 1/22 and will reopen on 1/23. Our part-time staff person will be traveling, out of cell zone for a portion of this time. Emails, voicemails, texts will all be returned after the office reopens. Emergency situations may be handled by contacting any member of the ODS Board of Directors, as listed on the ODS “Contact” webpage.
