A Message from Blue Bridle Insurance Agency.
Spring has sprung! The growing season is a good time of the year to be reminded of the need to inspect pastures routinely for plants that are poisonous to your horse. Ingestion of even small amounts can be harmful or fatal. A horse may nibble on anything due to boredom. And the undernourished horse may eat everything in sight. Consider contacting your agricultural extension agent and ask about which ones thrive in your area. Then search the internet to identify those plants.
The Oregon Veterinary Medical Association has a useful website which describes 10 plants toxic to horses and includes info on signs, treatment and prognosis for each. Check it out, https://oregonvma.org/care-health/equine/10-plants-toxic-horses.
When it comes to keeping your horse healthy, illness prevention is key! Visit www.bluebridle.com for answers to your horse insurance questions.
